I have recently taken early retirement from my career as librarian working in the specialist area of early printed books and manuscripts. I have researched the history of printing, bookselling and reading in Ireland, and I have published widely on these topics. Here I will share my love of old books, and present new research on Irish books, publishing and reading in the eighteenth century.

Research areas: Reading, publishing, sale and distribution of books in 18th-century Ireland. Literacy, education and French language teaching in the 18th century. History of children’s literature, especially 18th and early 19th centuries. History of libraries and library service, concentrating on the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Current research: The ongoing long-term compilation of a directory of members of the book trade in Munster and South Leinster in the long 18th century, 1690 to 1830. Women in the 18th-century book trade.
